Music has been referred to as the "universal language" - how well do you speak it? This two-part series - led by the brilliant and versatile bassist Steve Zerlin - will expand your understanding of what you are actually doing with your instrument, enabling you to grow with unlimited creativity as a player, composer or improviser. Steve Zerlin is an incredible instrumentalist - fluent in many styles of music, who has played with many top artists, including Jerry Garcia, Dennis Chambers, Victor Wooten, Carl Filipiak, Kenny Loggins, The Drifters, The Platters and more. October 21 & 22nd from 1-5 PM each day. In this class, you will: Deepen your theoretical understanding of music Learn to fluidly speak the language of ALL styles of music, including cross-cultural Improve your audio recognition (ability to really hear what you are listening to, including chords beyond the diatonic) Obtain a comprehensive and integrated understanding applicable to all keys Develop a practical application of the "circle of fifths" No prior knowledge is required. Bring a notebook, a pencil and an instrument if you like (guitar or bass most useful). **ONE ticket covers BOTH days of this comprehensive Masterclass.**

Sup-“Ear”-ior Ear Training for Youngsters

Kids 4-10 --- join Brennan McShane to play training games in a fun, engaging environment. Class is designed to develop and strengthen aural skills of young musicians aiming to join bands, bring these concepts to their own practice and lessons, or just enjoy a fun challenge with friends. Concepts will include pitch relationships, chord qualities, tempo relationships, and solfege. Activities would include hearing 2 notes or musical excerpts and picking the higher one, analyzing tempos (which version of 'Baby Shark' is faster/higher pitched/ etc), identifying chords ('majorly happy, minorly sad, other') and beginning solfège (here's' do'- guess which solfège syllable the mystery note is).

This event is SOLD OUT! Catch us for the next Jam Night in January 2024! Let's jam! Jam Night is an opportunity for students of all abilities to informally play together under the guidance of an instructor. Jam Night can take many forms, depending on who is in attendance, but usually includes playing songs selected by attendees, guided improvisation, opportunities to solo and more. Jam night is a great way for beginners to ease into playing with others and for experienced musicians to practice improv and soloing skills. There is no audience for Jam Night - more an opportunity for musicians to hone their group playing and improv skills with the expectation that it will be messy and free! And it is SO MUCH FUN!

This Masterclass is ideal for any rhythm section musician on any instrument. **JUST ADDED*** Dennis & Gary are excited to welcome Towson University professor and illustrious guitarist, composer and educator John Lee, as well as Chris Fischer - the keyboardist for the jazz fusion group Spyro Gyra - to round out this masterclass with the perspective of a guitarist and keyboardist.   Dennis Chambers is a legendary drummer who has recorded and performed with John Scofield, George Duke, Santana, P-Funk, John McLaughlin, Mike Stern, and many others.
