Should I Join a Themed Band or Year-Round Band?
This fall, we’re excited to introduce a new addition to our band program: themed bands!
Similarly to our summer camps, each themed band will focus on a specific genre.
Themed bands and year-round bands are both great ways to build confidence, make new friends, and strengthen your musical knowledge – but there are a few differences.
Read on to learn how themed bands differ from our traditional year-round bands and decide which program you’d like to try!
In the themed band program, students learn songs from a setlist curated by their instructor and the Band Director, Brett Sellers. The setlist contains songs from their band’s theme: 70’s – 80’s, 90’s Grunge, or Jam Band.
In the year-round program, students create their own setlist with their band. While the songs are typically within the rock genre, they vary based on student interest and preferences.
Themed bands run on a set 16-week schedule from November 2026 – March 2027, with late enrollment closing on December 20th.
Admission is rolling in the year-round band program, meaning students can join at any time and are enrolled indefinitely.
At the end of the themed band program, students hold a live performance for friends and family in our beautiful, 60-seat Performance Hall.
Year-round band students perform onstage across local venues. Past gigs include The 8×10, Zen West, The Recher, B.C. Brewery, Power Plant Live, Hard Rock Cafe, and more!
Year-round band students participate in Demo Day in February 2027. Instead of having a regular weekly rehearsal, students will spend 90 minutes in the Studios at Stages, recording a real demo with their band and a professional recording engineer.
