Ian Wysham

Drum Instructor

Ian Wysham is a performer, arranger, and educator living in Baltimore, MD. Growing up the child of two music teachers, Ian has been performing music since childhood, taking up drums and percussion in high school, where he was first exposed to concert and marching band. Ian attended Towson University where he was a member of the World Famous Towson University Marching Band, the Towson University Pep Band, Symphonic Orchestra, Symphonic Band, the Percussion Ensemble, Latin Ensemble, Pop Ensemble, and multiple jazz combos. While at Towson, he also studied under John Seligman, Frank Russo, and Dr. Michele Humphreys. Ian has also had the opportunity to study with Dr. David Constantine of the President’s Own and Andrew Emerich of the U.S. Army Field Band. In 2016, Ian played drumset as a cast member in the WGI World Class indoor percussion group Cadets Winter Percussion. 

Since 2013, Ian has been a battery percussion instructor at various institutions around the Baltimore-Washington metro region, and is currently Percussion Director at Governor Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, MD, a battery technician at Towson University, and the battery caption head for the WGI indoor percussion ensemble Old Line Percussion, from Frederick, MD.

In 2019, Ian enlisted in the U.S. Army as a musician, attending Basic Training and the U.S. Army School of Music in 2020, where he studied under SSG Peter Greenberg and SGT Dave Scott. Ian currently performs with the 229th Army Band as a percussionist in a wide variety of musical contexts spanning traditional marching music, chamber winds music, large wind ensembles, big band, contemporary small group jazz, and popular rock.

As a freelancer, Ian also performs around the Baltimore-Washington region with rock and jazz groups.
