    Open Mic is an opportunity for you to practice your performance chops, build confidence, share your talents with a supportive audience and network with other up-and-coming musicians in our beautiful Julian S. Smith Performance Hall. Stages' Open Mic Night happens the second Thursday of every other month, hosted by TJ Mullen, AKA Guitardog.  Solo artists, small groups & full bands welcome Grand piano, drumset, and full backline available Pre-recorded audio (backing tracks, etc) is not permitted Vocalists must have an accompanist No spoken word 1-2 songs per artist, depending on number of performers Due to limited seating, performers and guests must RSVP in advance. All performers should still arrive by 6 PM to claim your reservation and spot on the list. Performance spots are on a first-come, first-served basis. Music begins at 6:30 PM. ...     Experience an evening of original music from Hays Dowdy and opener Sophia Bryter! Hays Dowdy is a Baltimore-based experimental pop artist and multi-instrumentalist defined by intricate lead guitar work and baroque lyricism. Fronting a high-energy live band, Hays explores a vibrant fusion of groove-heavy dance rock with an engine of gritty riffs. Sophia Bryter is a singer-songwriter from Baltimore, Maryland, whose music blends deep emotional catharsis with striking, sophisticated arrangements. A recent graduate of Berklee College of Music, Sophia’s artistic journey took a definitive leap forward during her time at Stages Music Arts, where joining her first audition-based band ignited her passion for fronting her own project. The show will be held in our intimate, 60-seat Performance Hall. Doors at 7:00 PM; showtime at 7:30 PM.     Get started with the exciting world of at-home audio recording! Do you have (or want) a laptop, audio interface, and microphone at home? Do you want to learn more about basic hookup and use of the interface and software? If so, join studio engineer Dave Nachodsky in Studio A for an introduction to the basics of recording. In this two-hour workshop, you'll learn: What a DAW (digital audio workstation) is How to use a basic audio interface How to get a signal in and out of the interface/computer Basic microphone and mixing techniques The workshop is open to ages 14+ (adults welcome).
