    Open Mic is an opportunity for you to practice your performance chops, build confidence, share your talents with a supportive audience and network with other up-and-coming musicians in our beautiful Julian S. Smith Performance Hall. Stages' Open Mic Night happens the second Thursday of every other month, hosted by TJ Mullen, AKA Guitardog.  Solo artists, small groups & full bands welcome Grand piano, drumset, and full backline available Pre-recorded audio (backing tracks, etc) is not permitted Vocalists must have an accompanist No spoken word 1-2 songs per artist, depending on number of performers Due to limited seating, performers and guests must RSVP in advance. All performers should still arrive by 6 PM to claim your reservation and spot on the list. Performance spots are on a first-come, first-served basis. Music begins at 6:30 PM. ...     Learn the "what" and "why" of microphone use and placement to make better recordings at home! Do you have (or want) a laptop, audio interface, and microphone at home? Do you want to learn more about which microphones can be used to record various instruments, and how? If so, join studio engineer Dave Nachodsky in Studio A for an introduction to the basics of recording microphones. In this two-hour workshop, you'll learn: The basics of microphone types - ribbon, dynamic, condenser Microphone patterns Stereo techniques Basic mic techniques for everyday use (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, and even drums!)
